Description

Green View, located at 14 The Green in Swinton, is a house built in the later 18th century, with earlier to mid 19th century additions and alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay house that is part of a terrace facing the green, featuring a single-storey wing at the rear that may have been a stable, creating an L-shaped plan. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked tooled sandstone, with stugged and droved sandstone dressings. The windows and doors have long and short surrounds, and there are projecting cills.

On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there is a step leading to a timber panelled door that is centered at the ground level, topped by a decorative two-pane fanlight. Above this door, there is a single window aligned directly above. To the outer right, there are single windows on both floors, while to the outer left, there are boarded timber garage doors that were formerly a cart opening at ground level, featuring a heavy timber lintel and a single window above.

The southeast (rear) elevation includes a single window at the first floor within a piended projection that is offset to the right of center. There are projecting single-storey gabled wings to the outer left, but the remainder of this elevation was not visible in 1998.

The front of the house features four-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, although some replacement glazing is present at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slate and has raised stone skews with moulded skewputts. There are stepped and corniced brick apex stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
