Description

Glencairn, located at 15 The Green in Swinton, is a house built in the later 18th century, with additions and alterations from the late 19th century. This two-storey, four-bay house is part of a terrace that faces the green. It features coursed render with lightly droved pink sandstone dressings, a raised base course, and upper windows that break the eaves. The gableheads have timber bargeboards, king posts, and tie-beams, while there are sandstone margins and projecting cills.

On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there is a timber panelled door set off to the right of centre, accompanied by a two-pane fanlight and a corniced door surround. The ground floor has single windows in the flanking bays, and above, there are gabled windows that also break the eaves. To the outer left, there is a part-glazed boarded timber door in an infilled cart opening, which also has a two-pane fanlight.

The southeast (rear) elevation features various additions at ground level, with a single window at the first floor offset to the left of centre, and gabled windows breaking the eaves in the outer left and right bays. There is a single-storey, rectangular-plan outbuilding at the front.

The front of the house has 16-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, has raised skews, and features a part brick apex stack to the northeast along with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998.
