Description

The Market Cross, located on The Green in Swinton, dates back to 1769. It features a weathered sandstone classical column at the center of the village green. The structure has a three-stage, stepped circular base that supports a square pedestal with a splayed base and a moulded cap. Above this, there is a circular shaft with entasis, a moulded base, and a capital. At the top, a square finial is adorned with a carving of a boar beneath a tree on the northwest side. The remaining three sides of the finial have sundials with metal gnomons.
