Description
Bothwell House, located at 10 The Green in Swinton, is a later 18th century house that has undergone earlier to mid-19th century and later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay house, with two bays on the first floor, forming part of a terrace that faces the green. The exterior is constructed of squared and snecked tooled cream sandstone, with droved sandstone dressings. It features stugged long and short surrounds to the openings, painted projecting cills, and bracketed timber bargeboards at the gableheads.
On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there is a centrally located timber panelled door with an engraved fanlight above. To the outer left, there is a single window at ground level, with a gabled window breaking the eaves above it. In the outer right bay, there are boarded timber garage doors, which were originally a cart opening, topped with a heavy timber lintel and a gabled window breaking the eaves above.
The southeast (rear) elevation includes a single-storey, rectangular-plan outbuilding situated at the front. The front of the house features 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, along with a small skylight. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a raised skew to the northeast, complemented by a part brick apex stack to the northeast with various circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
