Description
39 Castle Street in Duns is an early 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay, L-plan end-of-terrace house that likely incorporates older materials. The exterior is finished with pebble-dashed rubble sandstone and features ashlar cills. The front has a central door with a blank area above it and a long box dormer to the right. The gable end is also blank. At the rear, there is a single-storey, single-bay extension with a broad window facing the street, which extends into a double garage, with an additional double garage in the gable end at the back. The rear elevation of the house has a platform that provides direct access to a much-altered upper floor, as the ground rises towards the back. The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, and the house has brick chimney stacks and a grey slate roof.
