Description
Gig House, located at 1 Clouds in Duns, is an earlier 19th-century building. It is a two-storey and basement house with three bays, constructed from cream rubble sandstone featuring a stugged ashlar facade.
The south elevation includes a base course and a band course above the ground floor. At the center, there are five steps leading to a platform that oversails the basement area, which contains a deep-set panelled door and fanlight framed by a Tuscan pilastered doorcase. Above the door is a window, and there are flanking windows on either side. The basement has a door with flanking windows.
Both the east and west elevations have blank gable ends. Attached to the northeast is a flat-roofed single-storey brick porch with a window facing south.
The north elevation has three bays, featuring a stair window at the center and flanking windows, with the right ground window being blind. There is also a single-storey brick porch to the east.
The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, ashlar coped skews, bracket skewputts, and chamfered ashlar stacks with a base and cornice. The roof is covered with grey slates.
The interior was not seen in 1993.
To the northwest is a former gig house, now a garage, which is a two-storey structure made of cream sandstone rubble. It has a later garage door facing the street and is abutted by a brick shed to the east. The roof is pitched and also covered with grey slates.
A boundary wall made of coped rubble runs to the north, aligning with the garage and porch. There is a boarded door in an ashlar doorcase located immediately east of the porch.
