Description

Rosebank is a mid-18th century villa with later additions and alterations, featuring a symmetrical design with two storeys and a basement, and three bays. The exterior is rendered with painted ashlar dressings and quoin strips.

On the south elevation, the villa has two storeys above a raised basement. The central entrance is accessed by 11 steps leading to a flush-panelled door, which is topped by a rectangular fanlight with radiating glazing and a bracketed cornice, with a window above. The flanking bays feature large basement windows, a Venetian window at ground level, and additional windows above. There is a cill/base course at the ground floor, and a single bay addition to the basement is located on the right.

The west elevation consists of two bays with windows on both the ground floor and basement, and a wallhead stack at the centre.

The north elevation has three bays and includes a later projecting tower at the centre, which is almost full-height. This tower features single windows on the front and sides at both the ground and first floors, as well as a basement door and window to the east. There is a base course at the ground level of the main block. To the left, there are single windows in the basement and first floor, along with a blind bipartite window at ground level. To the right, there is a basement window and a bipartite window at the first floor. A basement addition is set back to the left.

The east elevation is blank but has a projecting basement addition and a wallhead stack at the centre.

The villa features timber sash and case windows, with 12-pane plate glass on the north side. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, and there are rendered stacks.

Inside, the villa boasts good plasterwork and woodwork, including some original firesurrounds. The inner hall features a glazed screen and an elliptical fanlight, along with a well staircase. The interior was not reviewed in 1993.

The boundary wall is made of rubble with block coping along the road. There are two pairs of stugged ashlar gatepiers with flat pyramidal caps. The pedestrian entrance has a boarded door, while the carriage entrance features an iron gate. Additionally, there are two small square openings in the wall, and a garage has been inserted to the east.
