Police Station, Newton Street, Duns

The police station on Newton Street in Duns was built in 1895 and is a symmetrical, two-storey building with three bays. It is constructed from coursed stugged cream sandstone ashlar, featuring polished dressings, raised margins, and rolled arrises. The building has a base course and a central panelled door topped with a three-pane rectangular fanlight, which is framed by a roll-moulded architrave and cornice. Above the door is a panel inscribed with "COUNTY POLICE OFFICE 1895." The flanking bays contain pairs of windows.

On the first floor, the windows break the eaves and are topped with pedimented dormerheads. There is a moulded cill course, and the central window features flanking pilasters and a segmental pediment, while the side windows are bipartite. The rear elevation is irregular and projects at the ground floor.

The windows are timber sash and case, with 12-pane single windows and 8-pane bipartite windows. The building has an ashlar coped skew and corniced stack, terracotta ridge tiles, and is covered with grey slates.
