Description

Reston House is a mid-19th century, symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay house that features classical detailing, with later additions and alterations. To the left, there is a lower two-storey, two-bay addition that is recessed. The building is constructed of squared and snecked tooled red sandstone, with cream sandstone dressings. It has a base course and a prominent eaves course, along with stugged quoins and long and short surrounds to the openings, and projecting cills.

On the south elevation, there are steps leading to a classical doorpiece that is centrally located at the ground level. This doorpiece features paired pilasters, a plain frieze, a cornice, a timber panelled door, and a decorative round-arched fanlight with a moulded round-arched opening. Flanking the entrance at ground level are tripartite windows, which include narrow side lights, while there are single windows in all bays on the first floor. The lower addition to the left has a timber panelled door at ground level to the right, with a four-pane fanlight above, and single windows on both floors to the left.

The house predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, and it has grey slate piended roofs with prominent wallhead stacks that have circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1999.

Surrounding the property are boundary walls made of low, coped and tooled sandstone, with iron railings above that have fleur-de-lys finials. There are octagonal-plan gatepiers flanking the pedestrian entrance at the front, which have shallow octagonal caps and an iron gate with fleur-de-lys finials. Additionally, there are square-plan gatepiers flanking the vehicular entrance at the front and a secondary entrance, which have shallow pyramidal caps, although the gates are missing or have been replaced.
