Description

March House is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan house that has undergone later additions and alterations. It features a single-storey range that is recessed to the left and a lean-to porch on the side. The exterior is constructed of rubble with sandstone dressings and a brick-built porch. The quoins are made of alternating red and cream rusticated sandstone, with parts whitewashed, and there are cream sandstone margins and projecting cills.

On the south elevation, the entrance features a keystoned, round-arched doorway at the center of the ground floor, which has a timber panelled door and a round-arched fanlight with a decorative batwing glazing pattern. There are single windows flanking the entrance on the ground floor and single windows in all bays on the first floor. A modern timber panelled door is located in the lean-to porch to the left. The single-storey range to the outer left has a single window offset to the right and two-leaf boarded timber garage doors to the left.

The east side elevation has a gable end with a modern window at ground level to the right and a small circular attic light centered in the apex. The north rear elevation features modern windows centered on both floors, with a single window on the first floor offset to the left and a box dormer aligned above. A single-storey range is attached to the outer right.

The front has four-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, while some modern windows are present at the rear. The roofs are covered with grey slate and have stone-coped skews. There are corniced, brick-built apex stacks with various circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The garden walls are made of rubble and are partially enclosing the site, raised to frame a pedestrian gate.
