Description

116, 118, and 120 Welbeck Crescent in Troon is a mid-19th century house with later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay plain classical building with single-storey, single-bay piended wings that are slightly advanced on the outer left and right sides. The house is now subdivided. The front is finished with painted coursed and stugged sandstone, while the rear features rubble sandstone. The structure has painted margins, a raised base course, a band course dividing the floors, and a lintel course beneath the corniced eaves. It also has narrow strip quoins, architraved surrounds to the ground floor windows, plain margins at the first floor, projecting cills, and a corniced doorpiece.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there are steps leading to a timber panelled door at the centre of the ground floor (No 118), which features a plate glass fanlight and a corniced surround with chamfered reveals and a block pediment. There is a single window aligned at the first floor, with single windows at both floors in the flanking bays. The advanced bays on the outer left and right also have single windows.

The northwest (rear) elevation has stairs leading to a lean-to porch centred at the first floor, with a small single window in the bay to the left. There are single windows at both floors in the remaining bays to the left and right, with a flat-roofed addition offset to the right of centre at ground level. The single-storey wing on the outer left has single windows, while the outer right wing features a single door and window.

The ground floor of No 118 has 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the other openings have replacement glazing. The roofs are covered with grey slate and feature replacement rainwater goods. There are coped, whitewashed wallhead stacks to the northeast and southwest, with octagonal cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by a low coped rendered boundary wall at the front, with square-plan rendered piers on the outer left and right topped with corniced caps. There are cast-iron pedestrian entry gates.
