Description

93 Templehill in Troon is a former bank building designed by George Washington Browne in the late 19th to early 20th century. It is a near-symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure that originally included accommodation for the bank manager. In the late 20th century, it was adapted for mixed office and residential use. The building features a red ashlar frontage with Tudor Gothic detailing, while the sides are constructed from squared and snecked stugged red sandstone. Notable architectural elements include a raised base course, an architraved cill course at the first floor, corniced eaves, and obelisk finials on the ogee-shaped gables.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a paired doorpiece at the ground level with two-leaf timber panelled doors set in segmental-arched surrounds, complete with a linking frieze and cornice. A ribbon swag detail is positioned above the left doorway (No 93). At the first floor, there is a single window with a ball-finialed, segmental-arched pediment that breaks the eaves. The ground level features a tripartite window in the outer left bay and a bipartite window aligned beneath the obelisk-finialed gable above. Similarly, there is a bipartite window in the outer right bay with an aligned bipartite window above it under another obelisk finialed gable.

The building has 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, along with various skylights. It is topped with a graded grey slate roof, raised stone skews, and corniced skewputts. The original rainwater goods are still present, and there are corniced apex stacks on the east and west sides, featuring circular terracotta cans.

Inside No 93, the space has been adapted for office use, and little of the original interior remains. No 95 has been converted into flatted accommodation, but it was not inspected in 1997.
