Description

Wellcroft, located on The Green in Gavinton, is a building from the early to earlier 19th century that has undergone later alterations and additions. It consists of three properties combined into one, featuring a two-storey, three-bay central section flanked by a single-storey, three-bay group on one side and a single-storey, two-bay group on the north side. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with stugged ashlar on the central group, while the two-bay group to the north is made of whinstone and sandstone rubble. The three-bay group to the south is finished in harl-pointed sandstone rubble with droved dressings, and the south elevation is harled. The west elevation also features harl-pointed sandstone rubble, and the two-storey, three-bay group has irregular quoins.

On the east elevation, the two-storey, three-bay group has a rectangular fanlight above the entrance, which is framed by an ashlar doorpiece with a shallow pediment and the name carved into the lintel. There is a window on the first floor above the entrance and in each of the flanking bays. The central single-storey cottage has a modern glazed door with a rectangular fanlight above, with windows in each of the flanking bays. There is a boarded door in the bay to the left of the two-bay group on the right, which has a modern timber carved name board above the lintel. A modern garage occupies the bay to the right.

The west elevation features a modern platformed sunroom at the rear of the single-storey, three-bay group in the center. The building has uPVC plate glass pivoted windows and a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1995.
