Old School House, Main Street, Gavinton

The Old School House on Main Street in Gavinton is a house built in the later 19th century, with some later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure that forms the end of a terrace with a lower ridge level extending to the east. The north elevation features render-pointed rubble with droved ashlar dressings, while the east elevation is harled. The south elevation is made of squared and snecked sandstone with droved dressings, and the building has flush quoins.

On the north elevation, there is a modern door located to the left of the centre and a half-level window to the right of the centre. The south elevation has three regular bays on the right side, with a window at both the ground and first floor in the centre and right bays. There is a door at the ground level in the left bay, with a window above it at the first floor. A modern timber lean-to conservatory spans the centre and left bays.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case, with a modern hopper window on the north elevation. The roof is slate with brick stacks, and there is a timber snowboard at the eaves on the south side, in the centre and in the left bay. The outer bays feature later piended dormers.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1995.
