Paisley Technical College, 42 George Street, Paisley

Paisley Technical College, designed by architect T G Abercrombie in 1898, is a Free Renaissance style building featuring a 7-bay central block that is 3 stories tall, but has no windows on the second floor between the advanced 3-bay outer blocks. The structure is built of ashlar stone with deep plinths and channeling at the ground floor window level. The wings have rusticated quoins, and Ionic columns on pedestals flank the entrance door.

The ground floor features round-headed Gibbsian windows and a cill course, while the first floor has straight-headed windows that are architraved with keystones, alternating between segmental and triangular pediments, along with a cill course and projecting aproned panels. The central first-floor window, flanked by pilasters, has a larger segmental pediment. The wings have 15-pane glazing in the ground and first-floor windows, adorned with ornate cartouches in between.

The eaves are marked by an entablature, with a frieze decorated over the wings and a cornice that is dentilled and modillioned. The west elevation is treated as the front of the building, while the east elevation is blind.
