Description

20-22 Back Sneddon Street in Paisley is a building designed by architect T G Abercrombie, completed in 1898 in the Scots Renaissance style. The structure has an asymmetrical T-plan and is constructed from snecked rubble and stugged ashlar, featuring polished ashlar dressings.

The elevation facing Back Sneddon Street is two storeys high and consists of three recessed bays on the left. There is an off-centre entrance that showcases a pilastered and corniced Jacobean doorpiece with a cartouche above it. To the right, a six-light leaded window serves the staircase, while the outer left bay features a canted bay window at the ground floor. The west gable end projects and includes a corbelled bartisan topped with lead, a bell-cast roof, and a panelled gable-head stack.

The return elevation comprises a two-storey and attic section with a five-bay block. It has three round-arched windows at the ground level, with a window arrangement of 1-2-1-2-1 on the first floor and three segmentally pedimented dormers. An adjoining stair tower has an upper window that breaks through the eaves and is topped with a pyramidal roof. There is also an additional gabled bay on the east side. The building features a variety of window designs, slate roofs, and corniced stacks.
