Peter Brough District Nurses' Home, 56 Oakshaw, Paisley

The Peter Brough District Nurses' Home, designed by architect T G Abercrombie in 1897, is an example of Scots Renaissance architecture. This three-storey building features dormer heads and has a three-bay façade constructed from stugged ashlar with polished dressings.

At the center, there is a full-height circular entrance tower with an architraved door surround that has lugged moulding, connected to a ground floor cill course and topped with a carved cartouche. The tower has three windows on the first floor with moulded reveals and three on the second floor with a moulded cill course and pilasters. The building is finished with a simple eaves cornice and a conical slate roof. The side bays contain two-pane sash windows on each floor, also in moulded reveals, while the second-floor windows are raised through the eaves and topped with pedimented gablets.

The rear block projects slightly on both sides and features a variety of glazing that is asymmetrically placed. The building has wide eaves and a double hipped roof with straight skews and corniced stacks. Additionally, there are panelled ashlar gatepiers, likely from an earlier house on the site, topped with domical caps.
