Smiley Building, Storie Street, Paisley

The Smiley Building, located on Storie Street in Paisley, was designed by architects Craig Barr and Cook and constructed between 1911 and 1912. This two-storey structure features three bays, with the central bay advanced. The building is faced with ashlar stone, which is channelled to the cill band of the ground floor and rises to the impost of the architraved round arch of the doorway.

The entrance porch is supported by two Ionic columns and features an entablature with "Hugh Smiley Day Nursery" carved into the frieze above. Tiny sidelights with bracketed cornices are positioned on either side of the porch. The first floor's central bay has a tall, elaborately architraved window topped with an ornate segmental pediment, flanked by narrow sash windows. The outer bays contain tripartite windows; the ground floor has a consoled cornice and pediments over the central lights, while the first floor features windows with bracketed cills.

The eaves cornice includes a blocking course that is raised at the center. The building also has a pedimented gable end facing School Wynd, which is adorned with a cornice.
