Description
Blairgowrie is an Arts and Crafts villa built between 1937 and 1938 by Thoms and Wilkie, with a single-storey extension added in around 2007 to the west and a piended garage to the east. The villa is two stories with an attic and features a steeply sloping roof. It has white painted harl with Art Deco detailing, a brick base course, broad eaves, raised brick cills, and flat-roofed dormers. The central gabled bay has projecting timber detailing at the apex on the entrance elevation, while the garden front showcases a prominent bowed balcony and wide flanking bays.
On the northern (entrance) elevation, the central bay includes a small window at ground level and a round-arched window on the first floor, both set in a recessed round-arch niche. Steps lead to a slated, conical-roofed entrance porch on the right, which features a timber entrance door and part-glazed two-leaf internal doors, along with brick margins and flanking small windows. The later single-storey extension is located to the far right, and there is a conical-roofed porch to the left with a door on its left face. An advanced single-storey piended roof garage is positioned at the far left.
The southern (garden) elevation is symmetrical with five bays and features a projecting rounded balcony on the first storey. Central shallow steps lead to a recessed patio area with part-glazed French doors. The wide, advanced rounded outer bays have slated conical roofs and 8-light windows on the first and second storeys, with ground-level windows adorned with moulded architraves.
The villa predominantly has metal multi-pane casement windows and a steeply sloping grey slate roof. Tall wallhead stacks are present on the east and west elevations, along with a ridge stack.
Inside, the villa boasts a fine decorative interior with high-quality timber panelling featuring Art Deco detailing. The original room layout remains largely intact, with some decorative stone fire surrounds. A dog-leg timber stair with a panelled timber banister leads through the home, and there are heaters with metal grills and timber covers.
