Description

1 Hazel Drive in Dundee is a two-storey villa built in 1910 by Patrick Thoms and William Wilkie, with a small addition made to the rear in 1914. This irregular-plan villa is designed in a plain Arts-and-Crafts style, featuring harled walls and a plain red tile piended and swept roof. The windows are multi-pane timber casements, and the building has deep eaves, with harled ridge and wallhead stacks that include red ashlar corbels and copes topped with terracotta cans.

The front elevation has a piended wing that advances to the center, featuring a flat-roofed canted window on the ground floor and a tripartite window on the first floor. To the left, there are two windows and a piended dormer on the return elevation. The entrance door, which has a single diamond-pane window, is located at the left under a swept roof, with a window at the angle to the right, beneath a jettied first floor that also has a window.

On the west elevation, there is a door with sidelights formed from a tripartite window to the left, and a window at the angle to the right, along with an oriel window on the first floor beneath a deep-eaved piended roof.

The east elevation features a ground floor window with a piended dormerhead above, and a wallhead stack that rises through the eaves.

The rear (north) elevation has a gable that advances to the left, with two ground floor windows and a piended dormerhead, and a door located at the right re-entrant angle. There are also two windows and two piended dormerheads in the recessed bays to the right.

Inside, the villa retains original panelled doors and some fitted furniture, along with several original chimneypieces and plain plaster cornices.
