The Hirsel, 389 Perth Road, Dundee

The Hirsel, located at 389 Perth Road in Dundee, is a single-storey and mansard attic Arts and Crafts villa designed by Thoms and Wilkie around 1905. The building features random rubble construction with ashlar dressings, and the gable, sides, and rear are harled.

On the south elevation, there is an off-centre segmental arched door set within a round arched chamfered recessed porch. To the right of the door, there is a 5-light bow window, a small 4-light window, and another 3-light bow window. The central gable is harled and corbelled, with a 6-light oriel window beneath a plain jettied gable, and there is a harled wallhead stack to the right. The flanking mansard roofs have small 3-light dormers and overhanging eaves. The sides and rear of the building are also harled, and there is a later first-floor piended extension. The roofs are covered with red tiles and feature one wallhead stack and two gable-end stacks, all harled.

The windows include casement styles with small leaded-glass panes, single panes in the lower case of the right bow, and sash and case windows in the left bow. The interior is modest with some alterations.

Surrounding the property are rubble-built boundary walls, which include a humped segmental arched roll-moulded gateway with a wrought-iron gate.
