Description

Wayside, located at 6 Hazel Avenue in Dundee, is a harled cottage designed in the style of Mills and Shepherd, dating from around 1906. This building features one storey and an attic, with overhanging eaves.

The south elevation is asymmetrical with five bays. Two of these bays are advanced to the right and include a battered wallhead stack. The middle parts of the windows are bowed. There is a flat roof over the central garden entrance and a conservatory that has a diagonally-sited rectangular bay. To the left, a five-light bow window sits beneath boldly projecting eaves. The cottage also has two flat-roofed dormers.

On the west elevation, there is a battered shouldered wallhead stack with a four-light rectangular bay to the left, which is beneath a catslide roof. A bipartite window is set back to the left, accompanied by a flat-roofed dormer. The east elevation features a canted bay.

The roofs are piended and tiled, topped with a weather-vane finial, although the top is missing. The tall harled stacks have a pronounced batter and tiled caps. The windows are casement style, small-paned, with some featuring leaded glass.
