Druidsmere House Steading

Druidsmere House Steading is a single-story, five-bay steading constructed around 1885 by Andrew Heiton, located to the north of the walled garden. The steading is built from red sandstone rubble with raised, rusticated long and short quoins. It has a slate piend roof punctuated by a ridge stack slightly off-centre and tiny, louvered vents near the roof ridge. An original lean-to timber porch provides the entrance at the east end elevation. Mullioned plate glass windows are set into the three bays of the living quarters on the right-hand side of the front (south) elevation. The interior of the living quarters has been largely altered, although a small, painted cast-iron chimneypiece in an Art Nouveau style, dating from around 1900, remains. A segmental-arched cart opening, with a loft door positioned above, is set into the gable on the left-hand side, featuring overhanging eaves and a tie-brace at the apex. Original stalls have been retained inside. A vehicular opening, fitted with a sliding boarded door, is located in the left-hand bay. Attached to the west end are two contemporary gable-ended timber outbuildings with corrugated iron and asbestos roofs; the one to the right has a half-timbered effect gable.
