16 Alfred Street, Stromness

16 Alfred Street in Stromness is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay house with a rectangular plan and a gable facing the street. It is attached to another three-bay house on the east side and has an open court to the south. The exterior is harled with painted cement around the long and short margins of the openings.

On the south elevation, which is the principal front, there is a deep-set modern door in the central bay at ground level, with a window above it on the first floor. Each of the flanking bays has a window on both floors.

The east elevation, which faces the street, features a two-bay gabled wall. There is a window in the left bay at ground level and a window in each floor of the right bay. A multi-flue gablehead stack is located above.

The windows are timber sash and case, with 12 panes in the upper sections and 6 panes in the lower sections. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are ashlar skews, a stone ridge, and coped stacks on both the east side and the ridge to the west. The property has uPVC rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
