Description
14 Alfred Street in Stromness is a mid to late 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house that is part of a terrace. The building has a rectangular plan and is rendered in cement with plain margins around the openings.
The principal elevation features a deep-set, part-glazed timber panelled door located in the central bay at ground level, with a window above it on the first floor. Each of the three bays has a window on both floors.
The windows are modern two-pane timber sash and case types, and there are three roof lights evenly spaced across the roof. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, featuring a stone ridge, concrete skews, and coped, extended concrete ashlar gablehead stacks at both the north and south ends, with plain cans. The building has uPVC rainwater goods, although some sections of cast-iron guttering remain.
The interior was not seen during the inspection in 1997.
