Description
12 Franklin Road in Stromness is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay T-plan house that is nearly symmetrical, and it is attached to a single-storey, single-bay house on the left side. The building is situated on rising ground to the north and features harled walls with harl-pointed rubble at the gabled ends.
The principal elevation faces west and includes a modern part-glazed door located in the central bay at ground level, with a window hugging the eaves above it on the first floor. There is a small window in the right bay at ground level and another window in the left bay.
The windows are a mix of two and four-pane timber sash and case styles, with a fixed timber-framed window to the right. The roof is covered with purple Welsh slate and has a stone ridge, along with a small rooflight offset to the right on the west pitch. The building features cement skews and rubble corniced gablehead stacks on both the north and south sides, and it has uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
