Description
10 Alfred Street in Stromness is a mid to late 19th century, three-storey, four-bay detached house. It has a rectangular plan and is nearly symmetrical, situated within a row of similar buildings. The exterior is cement-rendered with plain margins around the openings, while the gabled sides are harled. A band course runs between the floors, and the corners feature long and short quoins.
On the west (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set, part-glazed timber panelled door at ground level in the central bay, with a window above it on each floor. The left bay has a window at each floor, while the right bay has a blocked opening at ground level and a window above. There is also a window at ground level in the outer right bay.
The house features replacement two-pane tilt-opening windows and some sash and case windows. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has a stone ridge, with concrete skews. The gable ends have coped harled stacks to the north and south, topped with decorative corniced cans, and the property has uPVC rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
