83 Victoria Street, Kirkwall

83 Victoria Street in Kirkwall is an 18th-century house that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring a three-bay, rectangular-plan design that is nearly symmetrical, with crowstepped gables. The house is positioned at right angles to the rear of Number 87 Victoria Street, which is listed separately, and has a later flat-roofed single-storey entrance porch on the north side.

On the principal elevation facing north, there is a deep-set, timber-panelled door with a letterbox fanlight located to the right of the entrance porch in the central bay. There is a window on either side of the door, and above it, a window is positioned in the first floor. The outer right bay contains a non-aligned window at each floor, while the outer left bay also has a window at each floor.

The rear elevation facing south has a window in each of the central and outer left bays at both floors, with a window at ground level in the outer right bay and a small attic window above it. The gabled side elevation abuts Number 87 on the right.

The house features predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a stone ridge, and harled gablehead stacks with cornices on the east and west sides. It also has predominantly cast-iron rainwater goods.
