Description
Cornhouse in Westray is a late 18th to early 19th century, two-storey barn with a rectangular plan. It features a forestair on the east side and is constructed from exposed rubble flags, with alternate canted corner stones at the quoins and crowstepped gables.
On the north elevation, there is a central doorway. The east elevation has the forestair, with a doorway to the right that leads to the ground floor barn door, and a first-floor door above it. The south elevation also has a forestair to the right, with steps leading up to the first floor and two blocked ground floor windows. The west elevation is a plain gable wall with blocked windows and no remaining doors. The barn has a pitched stone slate roof with a gable apex stack on the west side.
The interior has been gutted, featuring a replacement timber floor on the first floor, which has not been seen since 2000.
