Farmhouse, Brough Farm, Westray

Brough Farm is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay house with a rectangular plan, featuring crow-stepped gables and a symmetrical principal elevation facing southeast. The exterior is constructed of coursed rubble, with some areas harled.

The southeast elevation, which is the main façade, has a central entrance with a boarded timber door. There are windows flanking the entrance on both floors and an additional window above.

On the northwest elevation, there is a window on each floor to the left of the centre. This side also includes a small rubble addition and a concrete block addition, likely used for a water tank, on the outer left.

The southwest elevation features a window on each floor to the right of the gable end. The northeast elevation has a single-storey lean-to concrete addition to the right of the gable end.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, although many panes are missing. The roof is covered with Caithness slate and has gablehead stacks with band courses on either side, featuring round cans.

Inside, the layout remains intact. There is a box bed in a separate recess with a panelled timber door in the ground floor room to the left of the entrance. The interior also includes plain timber fireplace surrounds, with the one in the room to the right of the entrance (the kitchen) featuring a cast-iron range.
