Description
45 and 47 Kirkgate in Irvine is a mid-19th century, two-storey and attic, three-bay classical house, likely incorporating earlier materials. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features architraved surrounds, an eaves band, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with quoin strips.
The principal elevation faces northeast and includes a large central corniced doorpiece with engaged columns for No. 45, a rectangular traceried fanlight, and a window above. The flanking bays have regular fenestration. To the outer right, No. 47 has a further door that is pilastered and corniced, also featuring a traceried fanlight.
The windows are 12-pane sash and case style, and the roof is covered with dark grey slates. There are two slightly canted piend-roofed dormers, ashlar gablehead stacks, and coped skews.
