Surgery, 46 Ferry Road, Edinburgh

The building at 46 Ferry Road in Edinburgh is an earlier 19th-century classical house that features two storeys, a basement, and an attic, arranged in three bays. It is constructed of cream ashlar sandstone, with a rusticated ground floor and droved finishes on the basement and first floor. The design includes a base course, a band course above the rustication, a cill course at the first floor, and a cornice with a blocking course.

Access is provided by steps leading to a segmental-headed doorway on the right, which features a panelled door and doorcase, along with a plate glass fanlight above. A broad tripartite timber box-dormer is situated above, adorned with pilasters, a cornice, and a central pediment.

To the right, there is a modern single-storey bay addition. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks and ashlar coped skews.

In front of the building, there is a low stone wall topped with canted ashlar coping and complemented by arrowhead cast-iron railings. A lean-to shelter on the right features a slate roof supported by cast-iron columns.
