Description
55 Kirkgate in Irvine is a mid 19th century, two-storey, two-bay end-of-terrace house located on a corner site, likely incorporating some earlier fabric. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with painted ashlar dressings, an eaves band, a cornice, and quoin strips.
The northeast elevation, which is the principal facade, is symmetrical with raised plain margins. The first-floor windows extend into the eaves, set within dormerhead gables.
On the northwest elevation, there is a gable end with a door in a plain surround to the right, a window above it, a blocked window to the left, and a former shop window, possibly. The east elevation features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with dark grey slates and includes coped skews, block skewputts, and gablehead stacks, with one stack located to the south on the party wall.
