Description
14 Hill Street in Irvine is a house dating from the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure that forms part of an irregular terrace. The building features a pilastered doorpiece and a round stair tower at the rear. The exterior is constructed of stugged squared and snecked stone with a base course and ashlar margins, while the rear is made of rubble.
On the southwest elevation, there is a centrally located pilastered and corniced doorpiece with a tablet in the middle of the blocking course and a two-pane fanlight above a modern door. Small windows are positioned on either side at ground level, with a regular window above. The flanking bays each have windows, with an additional small window to the left of the window on the right at the first floor.
The northeast elevation features a harled stair tower at the rear, which has a tall multi-pane stair window at the centre and a catslide roof. The window arrangement on this side mirrors that of the southwest elevation.
The building has eight-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, brick end stacks, stone coping on the northwest skews, and a cast-iron rooflight.
Inside, there is a common close leading to a winding stone stair at the rear.
