43 And 45 Townsend Place, Kirkcaldy

43 and 45 Townsend Place in Kirkcaldy is a later 19th-century, two-storey and attic house that forms the eastern end of a terrace. The building is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, with base and eaves courses. It has stone mullions and chamfered arrises.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with a central bay that includes a pilastered doorcase topped with a block pediment. This doorcase features a deep-set panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight above. On either side of the central bay are canted and corniced tripartite windows. Above, there is a window in the centre flanked by bipartite windows, and piended, canted tripartite dormer windows over the outer bays.

The west elevation presents a broad gable with a window to the left of centre on each floor, and a blank flat-roofed bay on the outer left.

The windows are timber sash and case, featuring small-pane and 4-pane glazing patterns. The building has coped ashlar stacks with some cans and ashlar-coped skews.

The boundary walls are low, with saddleback coping and semicircular coping made from rubble.

This building is listed for its well-preserved form and its position at the end of an irregular terrace.
