39 And 41 Townsend Place, Kirkcaldy

35 and 37 Townsend Place in Kirkcaldy are a pair of later 19th-century, two-storey and attic houses that have been converted into flats, with numbers 39 and 41 having been altered. The buildings are constructed from squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring base and eaves courses, architraved surrounds, and corniced doors. Stone mullions are present on Nos 39 and 41.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with Nos 35 and 37 on the left featuring a deep-set panelled timber door and a small-pane fanlight at the center, flanked by windows and regular fenestration on the first floor. Nos 39 and 41 on the right have a similar design but include bipartite windows in the outer bays and a piended timber and slate dormer window above the left bay.

On the north elevation, Nos 35 and 37 include a catslide-roof circular stair tower with a window on the first floor and additional windows in the flanking bays. Nos 39 and 41 have a harled, lower two-storey, pitch-roofed extension.

The windows are timber sash and case with various glazing patterns, including 4-pane, 12-pane, and plate glass. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar mutual and wallhead stacks with a full set of polygonal cans.

The boundary walls include low saddleback-coped walls to the south and coped rubble walls elsewhere.
