Description

111 Montgomery Street in Irvine is a classical house dating from the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a single storey and attic structure with a T-plan layout, featuring a front made of ashlar stone and rubble stone on the sides and rear. The building has a base course, eaves cornice, and blocking course, along with rusticated quoins and moulded margins.

The southeast elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central porch supported by Roman Doric fluted columns, a triglyph frieze, and a mutule cornice. On either side of the porch, there are windows at the ground floor level and bowed, gabled dormers above.

The southwest elevation presents a gable end that is harled, with a flat-roofed extension. The northeast elevation is a blank gable end. The northwest elevation features a gable end of an advanced single storey wing at the centre, with a door offset to the right and three small, plain windows on the southwest face. To the right in the main house, there is a bay with a window that has plain margins, and above it is a later 3-light piended dormer. To the left in the main house, there is another plain window.

The windows throughout the house are 4-pane or plate glass timber sash and case types, and the roof is covered with grey/brown slate, featuring stone skews and corniced ashlar gablehead stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by boundary walls, which include a low coursed stone wall with coping to the southeast and a partial rubble stone wall with coping to the southwest and northwest.
