Description
8 Brown's Place in East Linton is a classical house dated 1809, featuring two storeys and an attic, along with adjoining single-storey pavilions with piend roofs. The exterior is white harled with blue-painted ashlar margins.
On the east elevation, the three bays are grouped towards the center, where there is a Doric columned doorpiece with a cornice and blocking course, as well as a fanlight. The ground floor has windows in the flanking bays, with the left window enlarged to a bipartite design. The first floor contains three windows, and there are three gabled dormers with slate hanging.
The west elevation features a large stair window at the center, flanked by smaller openings on each side. There are windows in the outer bays on both the ground and first floors.
The north and south gables each have single-storey pavilions attached, with doorways on the side flanked by windows. The south window has been enlarged, and there is an attic window above.
The house predominantly features a 12-pane glazing pattern in the sash and case windows, while the dormers have 9-pane casement windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, has straight skews, and red sandstone ashlar stacks. A low rubble retaining wall surrounds the property.
