Description
9 Brown's Place is a house built around 1830, part of a terraced pair. It is two stories tall and has three bays. The front is made of red sandstone ashlar with stugged dressings and features raised margins and an eaves course. The sides and rear are constructed from whinstone rubble.
On the north elevation, the bays are grouped towards the center. There is a painted pilaster doorpiece in the middle with a cornice, a fanlight above, and a flush panelled door. The flanking bays at ground floor have tripartite windows, and there are three windows on the first floor.
The south elevation features a large stair window in the center with a fire escape, and there are windows on each floor in the outer bays. The eastern gable end is a blank rubble wall.
The sash and case windows predominantly have a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the stair window has a 4-pane pattern with border glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, has straight skews, and features end stacks.
