Description

2 Redwells Road in Kinglassie is a classical house built in 1774 and repaired in 1818. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan, featuring a piend and platform roof, along with a single-storey extension at the rear. The exterior is harled, with raised ashlar margins and quoin strips, and includes base and eaves courses. The ground floor windows have architraved surrounds and stone mullions.

On the west elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a step up to a pilastered and corniced doorcase with a block pedimented course. The deep-set panelled timber door has a plate glass fanlight above it. Flanking the entrance are bipartite windows with block pedimented windowheads. The first floor features a central window with flanking bipartite windows, all positioned close to the eaves.

The south elevation has windows on the outer right at the ground floor and in the centre and outer right at the first floor. There is a slightly set-back piended extension adjoining to the right. The north elevation has a window on the outer left at both floors, with an extension adjoining beyond.

The windows throughout the house are timber sash and case with a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are cavetto coped ashlar wallhead stacks topped with polygonal cans.

Inside, there is a part-glazed screen door leading to the hall, and panelled shutters are present, although the remainder of the interior is not visible.

The property is enclosed by coped rubble boundary walls, which feature decorative cast-iron gates and gatepiers.
