Description
The King's Arms Hotel, located at 113-115 High Street in Irvine, is an early 19th-century coaching inn that was raised to three stories in the mid-19th century. The building features a three-bay design with additional structures at the rear lining the close. It is rendered with painted margins and quoins, and has a base course, a dividing lintel band at the first floor, an eaves band, a cornice, and a blocking course.
On the High Street elevation, there are broad, block corniced doorpieces at the outer bays, with a window off-centre to the right and a smaller window flanking to the left. The first floor has three windows located in the outer bays and off-centre right, while the second floor has three regularly placed windows.
The south elevation features a broad gable to the right with windows to the left, and two-storey buildings that are early but altered, which are part of the hotel, running to the left.
The rear elevation includes a bowed stair tower with a conical roof that is partially glazed, situated to the left of centre, with additional windows to the left and a gabled bay to the right. There are further single-storey buildings at ground level to the left and two-storey structures to the right.
The windows are timber sash and case with small-pane glazing patterns, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The building has broad gablehead stacks with a full complement of cans. The interior was not seen in 1996.
