Description
The Free Presbyterian Manse, located at 16 Matheson Road in Stornoway, Lewis, is a late 19th century villa that is symmetrical, two stories high, and has three bays. It is part of a nearly identical pair of buildings situated side by side and features an iron-railed boundary wall. The villa is constructed from roughly-coursed and squared rubble with unpainted rendered details. The outer windows are mullioned, and the first-floor window heads have timber-trussed and barge-boarded gables. The ground floor openings are set within castellated projecting bays and are connected by a continuous string course that separates the floors. The building has modern glazing, end stacks, and a slate roof. The low boundary wall is topped with decorative cast-iron railings that extend into the garden on the right and return along the flank to MacKenzie Street. The original front gate is also still in place.
