54 South Street, Fochabers

54 South Street in Fochabers is an early 19th century, two-storey house facing south, featuring three bays and situated on a slope that descends to the left (west). The building is constructed of mixed rubble with tooled sandstone ashlar dressings, and it has a whitewashed return gable facing George Street. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing that has been converted into two garages, which are also whitewashed.

The central door is flanked by low ground floor windows that are slightly different in size to accommodate the slope. The first floor has windows in the outer bays only, with a single window in the return gable, featuring 9- and 12-pane glazing. The house has coped end stacks and a roof made of graded Banffshire slate, with a stone ridge.

Inside, the ground floor has been partially remodelled. The first-floor drawing room includes a panelled dado, window shutters, and doors, featuring both rectangular and octagonal beaded panels. The door frames are moulded and reeded, some adorned with rosette dies on the lintels. Similar detailing in the woodwork can be found throughout the house.
