Friar's Park, 9 Institution Road, Elgin

Friar's Park is an L-plan house built in 1846 by A and W Reid, with later additions made in 1886 by the same architects. The house is constructed of tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings and has two storeys. The southern arm features one bay, while the eastern arm has three bays, including a square corniced porch at the re-entrant angle. There is an angle buttress to the porch that supports a stone urn. The ground floor has later canted bay windows on the south and west elevations, and a later corniced bipartite window on the south gable. All windows have bracketted cills, and some 12-pane glazing remains. The house has deep bracketted stone eaves and square ridge stacks arranged in groups of three, topped by a shallow piended slate roof. Additionally, there is a later two-storey, single bay wing at the rear.
