Description
The Lodge at Anderson's Institution, located at 2 Institution Road in Elgin, was designed by Archibald Simpson and built between 1830 and 1833. This single-storey, three-bay gate lodge features tooled ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings. It has a canted street gable, with the door and windows set in shallow panels, and a blind window in the centre gable. The windows primarily have four-pane glazing. A notable feature is the substantial 'barley-sugar twist' ashlar chimney stack at the street gable, and the roof is a shallow piended slate design.
