South View, 42 South Street, Fochabers

South View, located at 42 South Street in Fochabers, is a house built around 1830, featuring a slightly later porch and dormers. This two-storey and attic structure has three bays and a mixed rubble frontage, with red sandstone rubble on the sides and dressed with tooled and polished sandstone ashlar.

The central door is concealed by a later square porch made of tooled and polished ashlar, which includes a side entrance, a front window, angle pilasters, and a frieze with a Greek key pattern below the corniced wallhead. The tall flanking ground floor windows are set under relieving arches, while the first-floor windows are connected by cill and lintel/eaves bands. The outer bays feature later 19th century canted dormers. The main house front has 8-pane glazing, while other windows have 2- and 4-pane designs. The house is topped with coped panelled end stacks and a slate roof, and there is a low coped front garden wall.
