Description
Church Gates is a house, likely built in the late 18th century and partly re-fronted in the mid to late 19th century. It features punched sandstone ashlar and a slate roof, with a double-pile plan that includes a central entry and end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has five bays. The facade is adorned with a string course, two sill bands, and a bracketed cornice.
On either side of the porch, there is a single ground-floor window that is double-chamfered, featuring four large mullioned lights and a hood. The first-floor windows have plain reveals and include a wooden mullion and transom. The gabled single-storey porch has an outer doorway with a double-chamfered surround and a Tudor-arched head with a hood. The inner doorway is of a later 18th-century style, featuring Tuscan pilasters and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars within a semi-circular head, partly enclosed by an open pediment.
At the rear, on the first floor, there are two sashed windows, each with a plain stone surround and a central square mullion. A central stair window includes glazing bars and has a plain stone surround with a semi-circular head, projecting keystone, and impost blocks.
