Description
32 Church Street is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, which was refronted in the mid 18th century and features an early 19th-century porch. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a large central brick ridge stack and a stone slate roof, following a double-depth plan. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range.
Notable architectural features include rusticated quoins, a deep coved cornice that returns at the ends, and a blocking course at the top. The plinth is also prominent. The entrance features an architraved doorway with a pediment and a six-panel door. The porch, designed in a Greek Revival style, includes steps leading up to paired Doric columns on plinths, supporting an entablature adorned with triglyphs, a cornice, and a blocking course.
The windows are shallow surrounds with three-light flat-faced stone-mullioned designs and six-pane casements, with a central first-floor window in a similar flat-faced surround. There are two gabled dormers that were restored in the 20th century. Inside, the details include chamfered beams and a left-hand early 19th-century central dogleg staircase with stick balusters and column newels, along with a collar truss roof.
