Description

A pair of attached houses, likely dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, with a later 18th-century wing to the rear, and altered in the late 20th century. The houses are constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with brick gable and ridge stacks, and a pantile roof. They have an L-shaped plan, with the later 18th-century wing facing Church Street.

The front, facing Kingsbury Street, has a two-storey, two-window range, which includes the right-hand gable end of an older two-storey-and-attic range. A central recessed doorway has a panelled door, and the ground floor has paired 2/2-pane sash windows with timber lintels. Above are 3-light casement windows. The return to Church Street has a low central doorway with a chamfered frame, and a variety of late 19th and 20th-century windows, including wide first and second-floor 4-light casement windows. One first-floor window is blocked. A 19th-century two-storey lean-to extends to the right.

Inside the Kingsbury Street range, the ground floor has 3-inch chamfered beams. There is an original timber winder staircase behind the left-hand fireplace. A first-floor door has strap hinges. The roof is of three bays, with some original tenoned purlins. Visible from the roof are tie beam ends and rafters of the later roof to the Church Street range, along with late 18th-century trusses, a chamfered axial first-floor beam and altered stairs.
