Description
Home Farmhouse is a pair of houses located on Mill Street in Eynsham, dating from the early 17th century, with a late 17th century bay on the right and an early 19th century extension at the rear. The buildings are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring dressed quoins and a gabled stone slate roof. A large 17th century brick ridge stack with four diagonally-set flues is present on the left range. The layout follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan, which was extended to an L-plan in the late 17th century.
The structure has two storeys and a two-window range that includes the gabled end of the left wing. There are concrete lintels above a late 18th century six-panelled door (two of which are glazed) with an overlight, as well as over 20th century casements. To the right, there is an early 19th century canted bay window with 20th century casements.
Inside, the left room features stop-chamfered beams and chamfered joists, along with a boxed beam in the rear room. The room on the right has a chamfered beam and early 16th century linenfold panels that have been reset as a 19th century dado. There are late 17th century winder stairs leading to the rear, with a turned finial on the chamfered newel post. The first floor also has chamfered beams. The early 17th century common-rafter roof with butt purlins is found in the left range, while the right range has late 17th century collar-trusses.
Attached to the front left of the 19th century extension is No. 21, which is also early 17th century and made of limestone rubble with a gabled concrete tile roof and a brick end stack. This building has two storeys and a two-window range that includes a blocked door and timber lintels over a 20th century door set within a 17th century ovolo-moulded wood architrave, along with 20th century windows and a late 19th century first-floor casement with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
